Elizabeth Olsen has said she always managed to hold her own, despite growing up in the shadow of her twin sisters’ global fame.

The young star is currently making a name for herself in the acting world, but as the younger sibling of child actors-turned-fashion icons Mary-Kate and Ashley, she was already used to life in the spotlight.

“It definitely made me look about it almost from a scientific point of view,” she said, and insisted that she and her elder brother Trent weren’t brought up any differently from their famous siblings.

Despite being the youngest from her father’s first marriage (she has two half-siblings from his second marriage), Elizabeth said she’s always managed to hold her own.

“When I think back on childhood, I made every person in my family see three musicals a summer at this kids’ musical theatre camp. “They were terrible but I was not someone who you could push aside,” she laughed.

Elizabeth Olsen says her ambition is to work with Oscar-winning actresses like Kate Winslet.

The 23-year-old has seen her career take off after appearing in Silent House and Martha Marcy May Marlene. Elizabeth wants to continue challenging herself and dreams of collaborating with her favourite female movie stars.

“To work with Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton or Kate Winslet,” she replied when asked what her biggest ambition is.

Elizabeth has a hectic work schedule at the moment. She is working on several movies which also star a host of big names.

“I’m playing Edie Parker, Jack Kerouac’s first wife in Kill Your Darlings, with Daniel Radcliffe as Allen Ginsberg, I’m learning guitar for a movie with Dakota Fanning and I’m in Therese Raquin with Glenn Close – exciting!” Elizabeth gushed.

The star also revealed her interest in working on another horror film. Silent House saw Elizabeth play a character who is trapped inside her increasingly spooky family’s lakeside retreat. She loved making the movie – even if she can’t bear to watch her performance in it.

“I like the feeling of being scared, but if I imagine the horrible facial expressions I’m making, I’m embarrassed!” she exclaimed in an interview with a UK magazine.

The erotic thriller Thérèse (based on Émile Zola’s Thérèse Raquin) has begun filming. Shooting on the LD Entertainment production will take place in Belgrade, Serbia and Budapest, Hungary, with Charlie Stratton directing from his own script.

Elizabeth Olsen, recently seen in the thriller Silent House and in 2011’s critically acclaimed Martha Marcy May Marlene, stars as the title character, alongside Harry Potter’s Tom Felton, Oscar Isaac, and Jessica Lange. Shirley Henderson, John Kavanagh, Mackenzie Crook, and Matt Lucas co-star.

The official synopsis: “Set in the lower echelons of 1860s Paris, Thérèse Raquin (Olsen), a sexually repressed and beautiful young woman, is trapped in a loveless marriage to her sickly cousin, Camille (Felton), by her domineering aunt, Madame Raquin (Lange). Therese spends her days confined behind the counter of a small shop and her evenings watching Madame play dominos with an eclectic group. After she meets her husband’s alluring friend, Laurent (Isaac), she embarks on an illicit affair that leads to tragic consequences.”
